Narrative

The flying golden ram that Nephele sent to save Phrixus (and Helle) from Ino’s plot carried Phrixus to Colchis; there he sacrificed the ram to Zeus Phyxios (or Poseidon) and gave the fleece to Aeetes. Zeus placed the ram in the heavens as Aries—first among the zodiac in many Greek reckonings—memorial of the escape and of the fleece that later drew the Argonauts. Catalogue Aries apart from the full Phrixus–Helle flight narrative: the constellation is the ram after its sacrificial death.
